Art from the heart!
Welcome to Sadie’s Gallery, a collection of artwork by Devon-based artist Sadie O’Hanlon.
Inspired by the Westcountry coastline and countryside, Sadie creates expressive watercolours alongside characterful caricatures, thoughtful pet portraits and creative experiences designed to bring people together.
Meet Sadie
Sadie is an artist, art therapist, mother and grandmother - and someone who's been on a remarkable creative journey.
For many years, art was something deeply personal. More recently, it's become something she feels ready to share. The more she's painted - and the more people she has worked with - the more she has seen how often people fail to recognise their own creativity.
Sharing her work, she hopes, gives others the confidence to trust their own.
“We should all be doing art,” she enthuses!
Drawn to the drama
Landscape and seascape painting sit at the heart of Sadie’s work. She is drawn to the drama of changing weather; the days when the clouds are moving fast, the rain catches you by surprise, and light and shadow keep shifting across the land.
“The real magic is when the light changes, the clouds race across, and the whole scene keeps shifting,” she says.
Those are the moments that pull her in. Not because they are easy to capture, but because they are alive.
For Sadie, painting is not about reproducing exactly what sits in front of her. It is about responding to what nature is doing; exploring, experimenting, making mistakes and letting the painting reveal itself.
Some of the work she loves most has come from what America artist Bob Ross calls “happy little accidents”.

A moment of giving
Her garden studio - her “imaginarium” - is where that happens. It's her quiet place, her escape, and the space where ideas are allowed to wander a little before they settle.
Although landscapes were the beginning, Sadie’s work has grown to include pet portraits, caricatures and personal commissions. Some are playful, some deeply emotional, but all of them are rooted in connection.
One recent commission was a portrait of a much-loved dog who had passed away. The painting meant so much to its owner that she carried it upstairs to her bedroom every evening. Later, Sadie created a small rock painting of the same portrait, a keepsake she could hold close every day.
“It’s a beautiful thing to be able to do.”
Art is for everyone
For Sadie, that moment of giving is one of the most rewarding parts of the whole process; seeing someone connect with a memory, a place or a companion they love.
Her work as an art therapist has only deepened what she already believed: there is no right or wrong in art.
Again and again, she has seen people surprise themselves by doing something they never thought they could.
“The most magical thing is watching people do things they didn’t know they could do.”
Whether she is painting a dramatic coastline, capturing the character of a beloved pet, or helping someone discover their own creative confidence, Sadie’s work is guided by curiosity, warmth and the belief that art should feel open to everyone.
Whether you’re looking to own a piece of original art, commission something personal, or explore how creativity can support wellbeing and connection, you’ll find Sadie’s work woven through the pages of this site.
If something here speaks to you - a painting, a portrait, or simply a conversation - she would love to hear from you.
