The challenging ones....

So, how to reproduce the magnificence the world presents us…?

I rarely know at the beginning of these works how they will turn out. They are a journey through decisions of colour, tone, and brush strokes made in exploration.

A blank canvas is transformed through a process of examination, inquiry, and trial and error; knowing which “mistakes” to keep and which to discard.

And all the while, holding oneself in a state of awe and wonder at the way nature creates, evolves, harmonises, and moves on…

I hope to always explore the relationship and contrast of light and dark, texture and perception, with my hands and heart.

Foggy Horizons
Inspired by the movement and the contrast between land and sky. I like the distinction between textures of cloud and water.
At Anchor
The isolation and peace of the yacht was the inspiration for this piece.
Coming Into Land
The movement of the sea caught my attention, but the flight of the birds was what made me put brush to canvas.
Twilight At West Hoe
The strong contrast between light and dark, along with the intricate details of the buildings drew me in.

The original photo of this scene so inspired me that I recreated this to explore the love I have for water and reflections.

Into The Light
One of the largest canvasses I've painted. A refreshing use of big brushes and lovely mess!
